No sidekicks, no kissing human princesses and no 3D worlds – Sonic is back and is ready for some old school 2D action!

Yes, all of your dreams have come true – you can finally ride a Sonic the Hedgehog themed rollercoaster and sleep in a Sonic inspired hotel room.
Story Trailer eh? Well – first let me say that a story trailer is not what I was hoping for. What I really wanted was some reassurance that this was going to be an atmospheric, intense, carefully balanced and balls-out entertaining multiplayer extravaganza. Story trailers tend to suggest that some focus is being spent on a plot. Plot’s are boring, especially Alien and Predator plots – infamously so, in fact.
Looking at this trailer it quickly becomes evident that the human-alien-predator love triangle I had hoped for will not be present. Instead we have a bunch of marines landing in a recently constructed and mysteriously deserted space facility that turns out to be jam-packed with various hunters and xenomorphs. It’s every contractor’s nightmare scenario, really – you build a dream resort/mining facility only to find out once everyone’s moved in that the neighbours are bloodthirsty murderers locked in a symbiotic murder-fight.
That’s right, a murder-fight. (yes it’s a real thing)
This trailer could benefit from a little more murder-fighting. The sneaky gameplay glimpses are pretty neat – I spotted the ‘dragging hands’ that surely means an alien has got you by the rump and is hauling you back to the nest, amongst other little clues as to how this game will actually play out.
I want this game to work. C’mon Rebellion, give us the cross-species multiplayer murder-fight we so badly need.

DO YOU LOVE SONIC?!
No? Oh. Well, presumably you did at some point. If, like me, your patience for Sonic’s super-speedy, hard-to-control antics expired with Sonic Heroes, then the original games on the DS might be exactly what’s needed to get that little blue rodent back in your good books.
For your money you get Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. It’s coming out ‘early 2010′ according to SEGA, why they didn’t push for the christmas rush is beyond me. Perhaps they fear competition from Zelda: Spirit Tracks. (I know I’m getting lazy with the full-name typing, cut me some slack I’m trying to break some news here.)
Will you be splashing out on these revamped originals? Or will the odd spot of emulation keep your Sonic-related needs in check?
