Sony had a very long conference at E3 covering PS2, PS3, PSP, PSN and Move with lots of new games on show as well as new services.
Most controversial is PlayStation Plus, a premium service for PSN that allows users to download free games every month, download Blu Ray Disc releases for an hour long demo, access to betas, discounted PSN DLC and the ability to set the PS3 to wake up and download game updates and firmware updates. The service costs £39.99 a year in the UK, and year long subscribers get a free copy of LittleBigPlanet to keep. However any other free games downloaded during the subscription can not be played once you stop paying for the service. Online play is still free for everyone.
Killzone 2 was a very pretty game. Well, bloody grey warzones are not pretty, but it is still one of the best lookers on the PS3, and it’s sequel is looking to up the ante by presenting the stunning graphics in 3D. The game is set to be released around May 2011, and will have full 3D support – so time to start saving for yet another new TV if you are into that sort of thing. We have a raft of 2D screenshots, click the wee pics to make them nice and big.
eBay game sellers will be taking another hit with the release of Final Fantasy IX on the PlayStation Network. The PSone Final Fantasy games attracted high prices on the second hand market, but now VII,VIII & IX can be picked up through download to play on PS3 and PSP for £7.99 a piece.
I find it quite scary that PSone games are playable on a handheld and will probably hide under a table when a PSP comes out that can play Final Fantasy XIII. That would need some size of memory stick.
This week saw BlinkBox launch an optimised version of their website on the PS3 adding yet another video portal to the console. In the past few years media functions have became a major feature of a console. Here we take a quick look at what these machines can do.
