How did you spend your Saturday morning? A nice lie in? A lovely day in the park or at the beach? Or were you one of the hundreds that went down to UNIQLO Oxford Street, London to meet Hideo Kojima and Yoshi Shinkawa to celebrate the release of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on PSP? I underestimated how big this event would be. HMV had a signing on the Friday which I thought the majority of fans would go to, so booked my early morning train to London happy that I when I arrived the queue would not be too long. I was very wrong. People had started queuing at 10pm the night before, over 12 hours before the signing was due to begin. When I arrived around 8am there were over 300 people there. I have to give praise to UNIQLO for some great organisation. While in the queue, staff came around with a rack so people could see the new Metal Gear Solid T Shirt range, then they brought round order forms so we could reserve shirts and keep our space in the line. The shop was opened early and the line began to move inside the store. We then received our tshirt orders, heard some bizarre announcements over the tannoy and around noon I finally got to greet Kojima and Shinkawa. I have been to events like this in the past involving bands and even WWE Wrestlers, but I have never seen anything like the crowds at UNIQLO. Want to see some shaky cam video soundtracked to the Peace Walker theme? Your wish is my command.

Nike And Vice Open Up The City
4 Comments
The makers of the best trainers in the world Nike (No, I’m not being paid to say that – I genuinely love Nike, and turn a blind eye to whatever sweatshop tactics they may use because, goddamn they’re cool shoes.) and cooler than thou magazine / film company / site Vice have teamed up to bring us a new geolocation app that allows users to find out the coolest spots in a variety of cities. – Nike True City.
It’s essentially a Google Maps mash up, showing the locations of a variety of restaurants, clubs, shops and general cool shit. Some of the things on there are pretty obvious. Yes the Natural History museum is impossibly awesome, but we all knew that when we were five. Luckily there are some genuine gems on there that would really go unnoticed. I’ve discovered that there is a proper (Not Yo, or anything like that, but PROPER) Sushi restaurant in walking distance from my house. Which is quite likely to get a visit. So, thanks Nike!
Well worth a download (It’s free, so no excuses) especially if you’re going to be jetting off to any of the other five cites featured on the app. It’s like having a polite, mute hipster in your pocket, giving you advice. Nice one.
Check out a video of the app here

Let’s Get Steaming Drunk!
0 CommentsNormaly when we give stuff free exposure, it’s in the vague hope of scoring free tickets, but as I’m probably going to be rude about this, it’s a dwindling hope.
For those of you a couple of years behind the times (Or indeed, displaced Victorian Temporal Scientists), Steampunk is all the thing with the kids these days (’These Days’ being the 1980s obviously), and a great chance to combine beer goggles with brass goggles is coming up on the 23rd of May, as White Mischeif returns to London.
WM is a pretty funky night out if you like that sort of thing, and the ‘Journey to the centre of the Earth’ theme promises caverns filled with luminescant mushrooms, An Accordian Band (Because that will be cool apparently) and some dude who sometimes goes to Burning Man, annoying you with his escapeology-but in a stovepipe hat obviously.
The main problem I have with this is that it’s at The Scala, which, while being an authentic 1900 cinema, is also bloody awful, and frankly, already has bioluminescent fungus, mainly in the toilets. To be fair however, I’ll be going, and it’s an excuse to party like it’s 1899 (Drink Absinthe, take Opium, mutilate hookers) that shouldn’t be missed.

Cover Your Lucky Charms
0 CommentsI don’t even like Guiness, so normally St.Paddy’s day passes by without a whisper round here (With the exception of at least one staff member hanging around outside the US embassy shouting “You’re not Irish, you’re American!” at people), but thanks to Aer Lingus, St.Pat warrants a special mention for getting hundreds of people butt naked in London yesterday.
Ok, so there were a few strategically placed clover leaves around (Unlucky for some), but there were plenty of full monty’s going on too. Aer Lingus offered free flights to Ireland (from bloody Gatwick) to anyone who whipped it out and wandered down the Thames path. I love this town.
