Be Bon Jovi

bonjovirockbandWho wouldn’t want to be Jon Bon Jovi for a little while – even loves the little fella, including our own Mr ElectricSpectre who thought his recent gig at the O2 arena in London was one of the highlights of his life (read his review on DownTuned). Now us lesser mortals can pretend to be the long haired one, or one of hid band members, with the release of Bon Jovi’s Greatest Hits for Rock Band. The band releases their Greatest Hits package on CD on the 1st of November and twelve tracks will be released as DLC on November 9th.

Rock Band 3 is out on Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 on October 29th and features keyboards and a new guitar with strings, making the dream of forming a Bon Jovi tribute act become one step closer to reality.

Game Runners: Playstation Goes Social

PlayStation believe the best games are played as a group. That’s why they’ve set up Game Runners – an experimental project where PlayStation, members of the public and young people from diverse backgrounds come together to create social games.

The project has been developed by PlayStation and Hide & Seek with a team of 8 initial Game Runners who PlayStation have picked to train as game designers and work to make the games relevant.

For those of you down in London this Friday (8th) here are 4 reasons why you should come down to the final Game Runners event:

1. Play a monster sized version of Blocks

2. Between 5.30-6pm you can win a PS3 and PlayStation Move start up kit

3. Watch End of the Line graffiti artists.

4. The whole event is presented by urban street dance queen Kimberlee Jay

Friday 8th October 12 noon – 8.30pm. Elys Yard, The Old Truman Brewery,Hanbury Street London E1. Be there!

Yeah, that was all from the press release. But hey. Giant games are actually pretty cool. Giant Jenga is ace. Why not Blocks?

Hopefully soon we’ll have giant Katamari!

3D Without Glasses

3dnoglasses

Toshiba are releasing two 3D TV’s in December – and you won’t need an overpriced pair of glasses to watch pointy bits come out of the screen. Hurrah! However they are rather smaller, coming in at 12 and 20 inches and will initially only be out in Japan but it’s a good step forward to push 3D TV into the mainstream (though do we really want it?). The major advantage of these TV’s is that you can have a bunch of friends round to enjoy some 3D action without shelling out ridiculous amounts for glasses. Imagine inviting a couple of  people over to watch football and you only have two pairs – do you shell out another £100 for another pair or let them sit watching a blurry mess. With these new TV’s you just need to crowd round the dinky screen. Will this craze die out soon? I’ve not been a huge fan of 3D movies at the cinema, but could see 3D being rather nifty and useful for games. Still, with most people still playing on SD TV’s 3D has a big battle to be dominant in living rooms.
