Nintendo scored a major visctory in the British courts yesterday, recieving judgement that R4 and R4 style flashcarts for the Nintendo DS are now illegal in the UK. Retailers are not allowed to import, sell or advertise the devices that were used to run homebrew – and pirate DS software. The defendants, Wai Dat Chan and Playables Limited, claimed the devices should be legal as they allow homebrew applications to be run but the court ruled it illegal as it has to disable Nintendo’s security systems to work. Wonder if this will bring the end of ‘DS and 200 game’ bundles that often crop up on auction sites across the net. Should hopefully also stop mothers going into game stores with DSi’s complaining their R4 cards don’t work on the system.
Hardware manufacturers have been working hard to stop piracy this gen with Microsoft banning thousands across Xbox Live, Nintendo fighting to outlaw the R4 cards and Sony disabling Linux on PS3 after exploits were found.
A few weeks ago I traveled afar (well, went to London) to have a hands-on preview session with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. Read on to see what is new in the world of the psychopath criminals and to find out where you can find a demo of the game to see if you agree with my thoughts on the title.
Capcom said they had an announcement to make at Comic Con at it ended up being a rather special one – the Street Fighter IV team were hard at work making Street Fighter X Tekken, bringing the likes of Heihachi and Nina to the Street Fighter universe. If that was not exciting enough, Namco later confirmed that they would be producing Tekken X Street Fighter which would see the Street Fighter characters fighting in 3D fighting areas against the Tekken crew. I am a huge fan of both franchises though do recognise that Tekken 6 was a huge disappointment, mostly due to the godawful side scrolling story mode. Both games are due around 2011, and we should also be seeing a downloadable version of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. Who would have thought that beat em up’s would make such a comeback, and with Capcom doing so many collaborations will we maybe see a Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat crossover?
We’ve had the Xbox 360s out recently, a 4GB version out in August and now a new Halo Reach Limited Edition version of the console in September – a new Xbox every month it seems!
The limited edition is damn sight much better looking than the mess released alongside Halo 3 and comes with Halo Reach, 2 limited edition controllers, DLC armour codes, an episode of the Halo Legends anime and a themed headset. Excitingly, the console also features sound effects from the Halo universe – monks chanting away when you open the disc drive?
The console features the standard features found in the Xbox 360s – 250gb Hard Disc and built in WiFi – and will be available for £249.99 from GAME and GameStation.
Anyone who has played God Of War 3 will appreciate this video by Kittenbinbitten, who is hoping to be on the next series of PlayStation’s reality show ‘The Tester’. Good luck chappy.
