So, some completely unexplained spiral formations have been spotted over Trøndelag and Finnmark in Northern Norway. No-one knows what they are. There have been no rocket launches in the area and meteorologists are baffled.
What’s your theory? New Tuguska Event? Interdimensional portal? Or swamp gas lit up Venus? Or, most horrifying – is it a viral marketing campaign for a sci fi movie?

Release date: 9th March, 2010.
To call Final Fantasy XIII hotly anticipated is something of an understatement. “The reason thousands of people bought a PS3 before discovering it was no longer a Sony-exclusive” might be a more appropriate tag – if the wind is right you can just about hear the sound of a million eager fanfiction authors sharpening their quills in anticipation. It’s going to be massive, it’s going to sell millions. At worst it’s going to be passable, at best it could be genre-defining.
Not many games are really afforded the luxury of selling fantastically well despite how good they actually are. A bad game can be made to sell via a major PR effort, (a la Kane and Lynch) but it’s hard to begrudge Square Enix their inevitable success, because Read More »

Anyone over the age of 25 probably remembers spending their formative years sitting up until 3am, relentlessly playing Doom on their dad’s pc and giving themselves strobe-induced CacoDaemon nightmares in the process. Fortunately this won’t be a problem for the next generation of gamers, thanks to creator Mike Hill and this super-kawaii MegaMan skin for Doom II
Obviously a man with an Arachnotron phobia, Hill has come up with possibly the most ridiculously cute mod of the decade –and only 15 years too late. ES is already polishing off its Super Shotgun for some adorable carnage.

DO YOU LOVE SONIC?!
No? Oh. Well, presumably you did at some point. If, like me, your patience for Sonic’s super-speedy, hard-to-control antics expired with Sonic Heroes, then the original games on the DS might be exactly what’s needed to get that little blue rodent back in your good books.
For your money you get Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. It’s coming out ‘early 2010′ according to SEGA, why they didn’t push for the christmas rush is beyond me. Perhaps they fear competition from Zelda: Spirit Tracks. (I know I’m getting lazy with the full-name typing, cut me some slack I’m trying to break some news here.)
Will you be splashing out on these revamped originals? Or will the odd spot of emulation keep your Sonic-related needs in check?

Never let it be said that the Spectre is behind the times – at least according to this article in today’s Telegraph. Yep, no sooner do we suggest real life death match arenas-and get you to join in, than developers 2k wade in with Mystery World, taking a war-torn future Dubai as its setting.
Game backdrops include the Burj Dubai –complete with gaping hole, and a certain sail-shaped hotel – also with a mortar induced makeover. Electric Spectre of course frowns upon this type of rampant opportunism (although if the game’s a hit, we think we deserve a cut…).
