Anyone who has played L.A. Noire will appreciate this hilarious clip from Funny or Die. The sketch highlights just how bad the ‘Doubt’ dialogue option can be in the game, turning the nice caring main character into a screaming maniac.

Kinect on PS3

Hardcore coder Shantanu Goel has managed to get the Xbox Kinect up and running on the PS3 – and most impressive of all is that the console is not running hacked firmware. The video below shows the technology working pretty well for controlling the XMB, but playing Killzone 3 looks a real challenge. Shantanu plans to keep refining the code and if you want to try if for yourself you can download the source code from his website.

Being Followed By Kanye West

Kanye West joined Twitter a few weeks ago, and has decided to follow just one person, a young student from Coventry called Steven Holmes. At first Steven was happy, but five thousand followers and countless messages later from Kanye’s 400, 000 followers he is sick of all the attention. To many it would sound like a dream come true – a famous person seemingly interested in your life, thousands of people now intrigued by you, centre of attention in tech news – however Twitter is filled with members of the general public who are annoying at the best of times so receiving hundreds of badly spelt and often hateful messages from them can’t be much fun. It’s not all bad though as he’s been offered some free Irn Bru.

No doubt it will be worse tomorrow now the papers have featured his story, and 4chan will soon be on the case to make his life even worse. Still – I would put up with constant messages saying ‘DON’ T H8 APPR8′ and ‘NO OFFENSE DUDE BUT WHO ARE U AND WHY IS KANYE FOLLOWING YOU’ for some tasty fizzy Scottish goodness.

Microsoft versus Google Maps

Microsoft has been trying their hardest to fight against the growing threat of Google and their next stage of attack is an alternative to Google Maps, and as you can see in this video it is really rather cool! IT will be interesting to see how Google counters this, we have already seen the Google Image search engine go under a major overhaul in the past week which makes it more like Microsoft’s Bing image search. Look out for a Microsoft Maps camera car in your street soon.

Stuff 3D glasses, we want Eastenders to be shown in the living room in the form of holograms and this merry dream/nightmare could soon be a reality with the rather clever combination of a pyramid shaped screen and an iPad. No need for glasses, just need to ditch the telly for a giant pyramid. We’re gonna need bigger front rooms.

Next Media in Taiwan have produced a scarily accurate reconstruction of Steve Job’s behaviour surrounding the iPhone 4 signal issues. Who will be the first TV station in the UK to do these CGI versions of the news? My money is on Five. I also hope that Steve Jobs conducts his next press conference with a Darth Vader helmet.

You Are What You Tweet

Gillian McKeith has made the classic internet mistake of making a post online, tried to delete it then mounting a cover-up plan to make out she had nothing to do with it. The former presenter of You Are What You Eat has been criticised for years in the UK over claims that her doctorate is not legitimate. Her main enemy is Bad Science author Ben Goodacre, who managed to get the same doctorate that McKeith has for his dead cat. On Twitter, McKeith responded to a user who was looking forward to reading a chapter about her in Bad Science, and called Goodacre an ass and a liar.

The tweets were soon removed when he found out and started asking questions about McKeith. Tweets then started appearing in the third person, and then this gem.

Twitter is full of Goldacre fans and clever detectives who then found links to the twitter from her official website, so of course it was real. The links were then removed, but still appeared in the source code.

Lessons to be learned – be careful what you post about people online as deletion is very difficult in the world of screengrabbing.

RealID Outrage

Blizzard have caused a storm of outrage with the news of RealID on their forums, which means members of their official forums will have to ditch their online aliases and start posting under their real names. The company says that this will stop a lot of abuse as posters will see that they are abusing real people and not an anonymous username. Folks are outraged over privacy issues. One poster didn’t seem to mind as some of his family even found it hard to find him on Facebook – then this happened to him. Another forum member has started a website filled of publicly found information on Blizzard employees, found when doing searches with their real names.

Would using your real name on a forum stop you from trolling, or would it make you more worried when you get into debates with other posters? Is this another warning that we should be more careful about what information we put about ourselves online?
