Who would have thought that the home of brilliant Terry Pratchett adaptations would be Sky One? The satellite giants have provided lots of cash and talent for their versions of Hogfather, The Colour of Magic and Going Postal, the latter coming to DVD and Blu-Ray on August 23rd. Perfect for those without subscription tv or who utterly despise adverts.
The plot sees con-artist Moist von Lipwig (Richard Coyle: Coupling, Prince of Persia) being sent to the hangman’s noose, but he doesn’t expect to get beaten at his own game and fall through the trapdoor into a Government job. Given the position of Postmaster, a role that hasn’t been occupied in years, by ruler of Ankh-Morpork Lord Vetinari (Charles Dance: Gosford Park, Bleak House), it’s his daunting task to get the dilapidated Postal Service up and running again.
All star cast, great special effects and a clever story set in the fantastical world of Discworld, all under the blessing of Pratchett. What more could you want? Pre-order now to get your copy in the post for release day!
Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time was a rare film, a videogame movie that was actually rather decent, and one that the whole family could enjoy. There was something for everyone – beautiful locations, giant setpieces, a snarling Ben Kinglsey, beautiful Gemma Arterton,a buff Jake Gyllenhaal and a magical, mystical dagger.
After a healthy run at the cinema, the film is available for home release on September 13th on a variety of formats.
Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is out in the very near future and while the game is a sequel you may have missed out on the original title as it came out rather early in the lifespans of the Xbox 360 and PS3. You can catch up on the lives of these crazed criminals thanks to these character vignettes, which are also useful as a refresher if you have played the first game seeing as it is coming up to it’s third birthday.
Warner’s have announced that Batman: Arkham City is the official title for the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game was first shown off with a teaser trailer back at Christmas 2009 at the Spike TV Game Awards, but it will not be released till Autumn 2011 – plenty of time to save the pennies then. The title is being developed by Rocksteady Studios, who were also behind the first game, and sees Gotham’s prisoners moved into Arkham City, a secured district in Gotham that has been set up to replace the ruined Arkham Asylum. More news as we get it!
