OK – so last night I got a chance to play around a bit with the Alienware OptXTM AW2310 3D moniter, (snappy name) courtesy of Dell UK. 3D is something that seems to be dividing the entertainment industry – Sky are placing some pretty heavy bets on it’s success, and after the flood of 3D televisions being shown at CES, it’s clear that whether we like it or not, it’s going to be forced down our throats over the next few years.
The monitor I was allowed to play with was very impressive indeed. 3D is hard to talk about because it is in essence such a visual experience, but the best I can do is to describe the experience as much deeper than I imagined. Today’s fancy-schmancy 3D doesn’t concern itself with popping out the screen, like some horrible fairground ride from 1995, but rather it extends the image inwards. Nothing appeared to fly at my face, but my vehicle (I was playing a racing game) genuinely felt like it was closer to me than the car just in front. Read More »
Halo fans rejoice – the Halo franchise will soon be expanding its reach to the silver screen, in the form of Halo Legends. A one-off screening event will take place on February 3rd, at the Moving Picture Company cinema on Wardour Street.
How can you attend this prestigious event? A series of prize-draws will determine the guest-list – for news and updates of these competitions, follow @HaloScreeninguk on Twitter.
We like it when canon is expanded, (although opinion at ES-towers is divided as to the merit of the Star Wars extended universe) and we liked the Animatrix - so this series of seven short Halo-themed films is looking to be pretty exciting. Watch this space, and follow that Twitter account.
It might look like fun, but these kids are seconds away from a grisly demise

FUN FACT:Did you know that in Phantom Menace most of the shots of Yoda were a puppet? Don’t worry though, those shots were re-done in CG for the new trilogy re-release. Yup.
On an unrelated note, Star Wars fans must once again brace for impact, as according to an interview with Access Hollywood (and received by ‘leccyspectre via Pocket Lint) Lucas has been inspired by Avatar to give Star Wars a three dimensional make-over.
“We’ve been looking for years and years and years of trying to take ‘Star Wars’ and put it in 3-D,” George explained to Access. “But, [the] technology hasn’t been there. We’ve been struggling with it, but I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen.”
Star Wars in 3D would be pretty sweet. However, many fans will be concerned that Lucas decides to do a little bit of extra tampering “whilst we’re here, y’know” and gives Boba Fett a supersoaker or something.
Well, not cool, but evil at least! With your big, lumbering, expensive, horrible products and your total disdain for the average Joe who just wants to set up his wireless internet. But never mind all that. Now we’ve learned via Pocketlint that Bill Gates, figurehead of Microsoft despite being several years retired – is on Twitter and making himself (and by extension Microsoft) look all cuddly and approachable.
Boo! I don’t like friendly Microsoft, I miss evil, seven-billion-pounds-for-the-student-edition Microsoft! No wonder Google have taken over as Apple’s main competitor. If this keeps up it wont be long before they ‘do a Sega’ and drop out of the race entirely. they’ll probably choose to ‘focus exclusively on their touchscreen dinner-table division’ or somesuch.
Sorry, this has turned into a bit of a rant about how Microsoft are less powerful and evil than I wish they were. What this says about me I’m not sure, but anyway – you can follow Captain Gates himself at twitter.com/billgates
