Someone, somewhere in Japan is breathing a sigh of relief this morning after millions of PS3’s broke down yesterday. Luckily the problem rectified itself before this chap could do any damage.
The internal clock of big phat PS3’s thought that 2010 was a leap year and that the date was February 29th.The PS3 operating system knew this date was nonsense, panicked and changed the date to December 31st 1999. People across the world wondered if the machine could really do everything, including time travel. The problem stopped players connecting to PSN, playing games with Trophies and using any downloaded content. There was a nervous tension at 11.59 GMT – what would happen at midnight? Would the PS3 blow up? Travel further back in time? Claim it was the 30th of February? Alas nothing chaotic happened and things went back to normal – but will happen in 2014?
