Games forum NeoGaf gets a bad press from some in the games industry, but you have to admire the creative skills of their members. Last year they produced a brilliant tribute to Contra in LittleBigPlanet, but they look set to top that by developing a top-down shooter called “Dudebro™ — My Shit Is Fucked Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It’s Straight-Up Dawg Time”.
The title came about from a topic about the ‘Imagine’ series from UbiSoft where a member got upset after being slated by another member for playing kids games instead of the next big shooter – and made up the name on the spot – to reflect how macho and nonsensical a lot of ‘mature’ shooting games are. The phrase sparked a frenzy on the forum, leading to the creation of the game.
The title is set to hit PC in the summer and follows the exploits of elite soldiers John Dudebro and his sidekick Habemus Chicken as they chase anyone who threatens the world’s brodiocity — an arms dealer, a voodoo priest, an evil glee club and more. Along the way, they’ll have to fight through swathes of expendable enemies, including aliens, zombies and even yetis. Amazingly, the voice of Duke Nukem, John St Jon has signed on to voice John Dudebro!
Now why is the game called Dudebro II when there was no first game? The creators say it has the number two in its name because sequels are always more awesome than original games — as all hardcore gamer dudes know.
The team is made up of over 100 volunteers from all around the world working for no pay – and the title will be a free download – now that is passion!
