Oh dear. Google are up to something.
It’s probably some amazing new app or service that will make us all much happier and provide us with spiritual enrichment, but there’s always the chance that this is it: they’re finally going evil as we always suspected they would.
The buzz is all about this mysterious Easter Egg. Go to Google.com and hit ‘I’m feeling lucky’ with no search terms entered. Cue a mysterious countdown, that seems to be aimed at the new year…
But why?
Suggestions please.
EDIT: Apparently, if you change the clock on your computer you’ll change the countdown timer. Any brave readers with a few spare minutes fancy setting their clock to 2 minutes to New Years and seeing what happens when it ticks down to zero?

It’s a countdown to the champagne moment on New Year’s Eve. And?
If it was simply a New Years countdown I’d expect something a little prettier than a javascript blue thing… ’specially seeing how high profile the whole thing is. Also, New Years is at different times all over the world, but the counter is consistent no matter where you are. All too mysterious.
Self awareness. The singularity.
Or something.
The realtime sarch on Gogle creeps me out a bit. It moves.
SPELLING FAIL.
Is it worth us all checking the various national Googles (.com, .co.uk etc etc) for this? Are they all linked up? Has anyone informed Jeff Goldblum?
